Acting as owner, co-developer, and manager, Aparium—working hand-in-hand with developer Walter Cohen—is in the midst of transforming the historic Detroit Fire Department Headquarters into the Foundation Hotel. The 100 room independent hotel adds another piece to the ongoing Detroit renaissance puzzle. The $28 million project draws on the Motor-City’s unparalleled past while proactively moving the city to its next incarnation as a national cultural, business, and artistic touch-point.
Scheduled for an early 2017 opening, The Foundation Hotel will help kick-start the local economy by bringing 100 full and part-time jobs to the Detroit market.
Featuring an inviting ground-floor restaurant The Foundation will partner with Detroit’s many local distillers, brewers, farmers, and other edible sundry purveyors to deliver an authentic Detroit experience. The Foundation is also working with local manufacturers to add truly Detroit moments throughout the hotel, leaving every guest with a taste of the best Detroit has to offer.
Additionally, The Foundation will be home to a “Chef’s Table” that will deliver a destination prix fixe experience and will also serve as an incubator for Detroit’s newest chefs and a home-coming platform for the city’s chefs who have set-up shop elsewhere. The Foundation Hotel will truly be a representation of all the great city of Detroit has to offer on every level.
